The beautiful land of Koningsteen can be traced back to the 13th century. Back then it was mainly used as a gathering and hunting place for the Dukes of Brabant. The surrounding fields and woods were known for their unusually rich wildlife. Even though, the land and property transferred ownership many times, it always kept its exclusivity and rural splendor.

It is said that in the early Middle Ages, the Flemish poet and mystic Hadewijch used to wander through this Flemish region. Under the tall poplars, this young beguine, justly beatified in Dutch literary history, would have practiced her poetry here.

The name Koningsteen (literally ‘King’s Stone’) refers to the fact that the very first stone in the village of Oxdonk was placed on this land.

During the 19th century, the property changed ownership almost every 10 years and from 1871 to 1886 it was owned by the painter Alexandre Thomas, among others.

In 1948 the property became the home for a national private all girls boarding school for physical education and therapy.

In 1996, the land became the home base for Koningsteen, a center hosting and facilitating a wide variety of workshops, trainings, retreats and educational programs geared towards personal development, healing and well-being.
